The fact that moving is often only a once or twice in a lifetime event may make it seem like a daunting and unfamiliar task, and often moving can be quite tedious and frustrating, something you don’t need in addition to the emotional strains caused by leaving your old home.
However, with a few tips and ultimately staying organized and planning your move smartly, moving your possessions from you old house to your new one will be a whole lot easier.

When choosing your mover, it is important to choose one that you trust and can rely on to move all of your possessions efficiently but safely so that nothing of yours is lost or damage in the process. Once you choose your mover, something that should be determined several months before your move date, you should buy all of your supplies (boxes, tape, etc.) that you will need for the move. An important tip is to buy more supplies than you think you will need because those boxes will get used up a lot faster than you think. You can also start packing any items you don’t use very often a month or two before the move.
However, now would also be a good time to hold a garage or yard sale to get lighten your load and get rid of some items you don’t use at all.

Several weeks before the move start to pack the rest of your belongings in labeled boxes. While packing, you might want to keep a list of all of your belongings all note which box each item is placed in. Doing this will help you to stay organized. On each box you might also want to note which room each box should be placed in once the movers arrive at your new home. Be sure to let them know which room is which in your new home, and you might want to tell them where to put the boxes in each room so that they are out of the way of high traffic areas and furniture.

Right before the move finish packing anything that hasn’t been packed already. Try to take all precious items such as family heirlooms in your own car, as well as all of your important documents such as birth certificates. By the day of the move, the only thing you should need to do is pack those few items you use everyday and put the boxes on the truck.
